My question is about the siding. I bought a house with permastone siding recently. It is approximately 1 2 1 thick. However it quickly became more popular for covering the exteriors of old row houses in baltimore built by the tens of thousands using porous brick that left them plagued by penetrating moisture.

I ve heard it referred to as permastone but i know faux stone such as this was marketed under many different names. Does painting over faux stone come out look. The second layer is applied to the first and troweled formed and colored to look like individual stones. We do not have the funds to remove it and are looking instead at painting it a light color.

The house is solid. The stone exterior is virtually maintenance free. Does anyone have any experience painting permastone. The home my wife and i just purchased has an unattractive permastone exterior likely added on in the 60s 70s.

Nearby in the same neighborhood is a house i listed many years ago that i called the perma stone palace. From what i can tell this is the variety which was comprised of individual pieces which were cast on site and then mortared together on to the walls. Stucco permastone and no flashing a big mess you touch it and you own it. Permastone or other simulated stone products joined asphalt siding asbestos cement siding and later aluminum or vinyl siding widely sold as a cover over applied to older buildings to provide a more attractive or more durable exterior that required little or no maintenance compared with painting.

As mark says the fix the hoa is asking for will not work.
